Abuse occurs in all types of relationships, whether straight, lesbian, gay, or bisexual. Violence is often directed at the LGBTQQI Community from outside sources. RDVIC works with local and state task forces and agencies to prevent that violence. We also work to ensure that members of the LGBTQQI community feel safe in seeking help from our or other domestic violence programs when abused by their partners.
Domestic violence occurs in all communities and has nothing to do with sex roles or physical appearance. A batterer can be masculine or feminine, large or small, tall or short. There is no precise description of an abuser.
Anyone threatening to expose your sexual orientation to family, friends, neighbors, employers, ex-spouses or city, state, and/or federal authorities is a type of abuse.
If you are in an abusive relationship, know that you deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Call RDVIC at (304) 292-5100 to speak to one of our trained staff members who can help you.
