Paint the Town Purple
FAQs 2025
What is Paint the Town Purple?
Domestic Violence Awareness Month occurs in October each year, and the color used is purple. Paint the Town Purple is an annual awareness campaign where we encourage as many people as possible to wear or display purple, post resources, and say loudly that survivors of domestic violence have friends, allies, and safe people across town.
This year, RDVIC and the WVU Office of Compliance and Prevention Education are partnering to provide Paint the Town Purple kits, including resources they can share or display, pins, swag, and balloons and/or ribbons to draw attention to this important issue, connect people with needed resources, and show solidarity with survivors.
When is Paint the Town Purple?
Paint the Town Purple will start on October 1 and run through October 8, 2025.
Who can participate in Paint the Town Purple?
Anyone! If you can get people’s attention to share this initiative with them, you can be an amazing community partner for Paint the Town Purple. We typically reach out to shops, restaurants, and small business owners in the community and will be asking the broader WVU Campus Community to participate, as well.
Are there other ways to participate?
Digital participation is always an option! Post related content between 10/01 and 10/08 using the hashtag #PaintTheTownPurple2025 and tag either RDVIC or the WVU Office of Compliance and Prevention Education so we can see and share your hard work.
Where can I get a Paint the Town Purple kit?
If you are a business owner in Monongalia, Taylor, or Preston County, you can contact RDVIC to request your kit. If you are affiliated with WVU as a student, faculty, or staff member, you can contact the Office of Compliance and Prevention Education.
